Bamberg

On our way home from Nuremberg and our weekend with Oliver and Susanne we stopped in Bamberg. Unlike Nuremberg, Bamberg was largely undamaged by WWII and so most of its beautiful, old buildings are the original.

The city lies on the Danube Canal and the Regnitz River and many of the town's buildings sit right on one of these waterways.

We drove into Bamberg and parked in the domplatz near Bamberg's amazing cathedral.

The Sunday service was going on so we walked around the city before going into the cathedral.

Near the cathedral is the Neue Residenz (a huge palace), the Alte Hofhaltung (old court hall) and the kloisters (monistary buildings). A couple of these buildings house museums now.

The most beautiful part of Bamberg, we thought, is the area surrounding the rivers.

There are many many small bridges, lockes, small, waterfalls, beautiful buildings, etc.

Here are some examples of Bamberg's quaint riverfront.

One of the most beautiful buildings is the Altes Rathaus. It sits on two bridges in the middle of the river and is painted all the way around. It is stunning!
