Reisenstein

The day after Daniel's birthday was our first Saturday here in Germany without Jeff. The kids and I decided to hike (one of our favorite things to do). We intended to explore the trails behind our house for a long time but hadn't gotten around to it. This was the perfect day! We were pretty sure we could make it all the way up to Konigstuhl from the paths that enter the woods near our house and Konigstuhl was our goal. Instead of leaving bread crumbs we took a few pictures (with Ellen pointing out which trail when the trail forked) to help us find our way back if necessary :) .

This bench is just above our house!

This is Reisenstein (vacation rock). It is only about 1/2 to 1 km hike (straight up) from our house. It was very cool and, although signs point this out as the way to Reisenstein, we did not know what to expect.

We sat here for a while and had our lunch.

Just up from Reisenstein is a lookout - built (if we understood the German signs) to honor those who died in the Hindenburg disaster in 1934.
The view was spectacular and the day was amazingly clear so indulge me and take a look at these pictures of the city we have come to love!

Another snack stop where Joseph and Daniel had to show off their cucumber braces.

Can you believe this is an apartment/condo?? It is!

We made it all the way up to Konigstuhl! It was an absolutely beautiful day so we look advantage of the sunshine and rested, had some snacks and enjoyed the view.

And we made it back without even having to consult our digital "bread crumbs"!
