Prague Little Quarter
We saw part of the Little Quarter on our walk to the Prague Castle and the rest on our way back down from the castle. The Little Quarter lies on the slopes of the hill on which the castle sits. It is very old - very few buildings have been built since the late 18th century in the Little Quarter. Walking through it, therefore, is a little like walking back in time. The center and main attraction of the Little Quarter is the Church of St. Nicolas on Little Quarter Square.
Although amazed and impressed by this magnificent church, all three boys were nearly equally impressed by the Ferrari parked in front...
This is the Plague Column - it remembers the plague in Europe and the many who died.
This is the Church of Our Lady Victorious. You can see that Ellen, Jeff and Daniel are all looking to the shrine at their right.
The shrine holds the Holy Infant of Prague (il Bambino di Praga) which is a wax effigy that has a record of miracle cures. It is one of the most revered images in the Catholic world. You can find replicas of the Holy Infant in gift shops throughout the Little Quarter, complete with changes of clothing.
This is Our Lady Beneath the Chain. It is the oldest church in the Little Quarter, dating to the 12th century. The rather strange name refers to the chain that was used in the Middle Ages to close the monastery gatehouse.
This is the House at the Golden Unicorn. The plague above where the kids are standing commemorates the fact that Beethoven stayed here in 1796.
The church was built in the early 1700's. It is full of frescoes, statues and paintings done by some of the most famous of Prague's artists in the early 1700's. The organ in this church was played by Mozart in 1787!
At the four corners of the crossing near the front of the church are huge, beautiful statues of the great teachers.

This is the Grand Priory Mill.
There is a relief of John Lenon on this wall which has been painted with poignant symbols and messages of peace since his death.
This is the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.
If we walked a mile this day we walked 20! We were tired, hungry and needed a rest. We headed back across the river to the Old Town for a late lunch/early dinner.
